Find your path: images & quotations
I am planning to start a new project in which I will use a ballad, poem, couplet, or short prose as an inspiration for images. To do that, I have started to practice by combining the images with quotations.
Find your path by moonlight.
“For a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”
Oscar Wilde
Once you find your way — or general direction, you can often only see the beginning of the path. It is difficult to anticipate all the challenges, crooked turns, hills, and valleys, and dangers ahead. Take the path, even, if you have to go it alone!
Although the road is never ending
take a step and keep walking,
do not look fearfully into the distance...
On this path let the heart be your guide
for the body is hesitant and full of fear.”
Jalal ud-din Muhammed Rumi
Take the path in good faith and stick with it.
“Improvement makes strait roads, but the crooked roads without Improvement, are roads of Genius.”
William Blake
Maintain healthy curiosity, and considerable humility. We have immense knowledge to seek, things to discover, places to go, unknown destinations to seek, and reach our goals — if we are lucky! And even if we do, those rare accomplishments will still be mere “prettier shells” or “smoother pebbles” than ordinary. It should not make us timid, rather, this realization should make us humble.
“I don’t know what I appear to the world. But to myself I appear to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or prettier shell whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”
Albert Einstein
